Anglo-Japanese Alliance

The Anglo-Japanese Treaty was a cornerstone of Joseph Chamberlain's first ministry, featuring heavily in the 1893 General Election Campaign. It marked Britain's first major intervention out of "Splendid Isolation" and paved the way towards the alliance with Germany the following year.
